The Augusta County Library Volunteer Program is designed to expand and enhance public service to the community. Volunteers contribute in every department of the library. They bring a treasured variety of experience and character to help make Augusta County Library the special place it is. Volunteers generally provide support services to paid staff, work on special projects, or assist the Friends of the Augusta County Library. They do not replace paid staff.
Prospective volunteers are required to fill out an application and will be interviewed by staff to best match their skills and interests to current needs. They will receive training on the tasks they are asked to do by the library staff who will supervise their work. Volunteers represent the library while they are volunteering and are responsible for presenting a positive image to the public. They should dress appropriately for the job they are doing and be identified as a volunteer by wearing a badge provided by the library. Volunteers are expected to act in accordance with library policies and keep a record of the hours worked.
Typical volunteer tasks include shelving materials, organizing the book sale, shelf reading, book mending and processing, assisting in the Children’s Department, and helping with the Friends of Augusta County Library. Volunteers may also conduct or assist with programs such as discussion groups, forums, Children’s Department programs, and outreach.
