Social Media Policy

The Augusta County Library (ACL) maintains active presences on social media and other virtual online networking venues to engage citizens and to promote and deliver programs, services and resources. ACL encourages posts, questions, discussion, comments, and varying viewpoints. Library social media offerings are intended to create a welcoming and inviting online space where library users will find useful and entertaining information. In some forums, users may be able to interact with library staff and other library users.

All ACL posts to social media networks shall respect all copyright and fair use laws.
Only designated individuals are official spokespersons for ACL with authority to post on social media networks on behalf of ACL.

When ACL employees are participating on social networking sites using their personal accounts, it must be transparent that their thoughts are their own if discussing ACL. ACL employees are strongly encouraged not to share disparaging information that places ACL or coworkers in an unfavorable light. ACL’s reputation and brand should be protected by all employees. ACL may access or monitor social media posts of its staff without prior notice.

When sharing information online, ACL shall apply the same standards of authentication and level of caution as for its print publications. ACL will correct inaccurate or misleading postings in a timely manner.

ACL owns and has controlling rights over social media accounts managed in its name by employees or volunteers.

ACL encourages its community to share content such as photos and stories of their ACL experiences. ACL assumes that anyone sharing this user generated content has the right to do so and has permission of the photographed individuals.

ACL will do its best to respond to comments as quickly as possible.

ACL reserves the right to remove any friend, fan, or follower from its social media sites as well as any questions or comments that are illegal, harmful, inappropriate, spam, or malicious.

ACL is not responsible for content on the pages of its friends, fans or followers. ACL does not endorse any information, opinions, services, graphics or advertisements appearing on its social networking sites.
